Most polluted cities in the world

A significant environmental issue that has been continuously becoming worse over the years as a result of expanding urban and industrialization is pollution. In addition to harming people, animals, and plants, pollution also has a profoundly negative impact on the ecosystem by affecting land, air, and water bodies. There are a number of hotspots in the world that are regarded as the most polluted cities in the world, and pollution is an international concern.

1. Talesh, Iran: With extraordinarily high air pollution levels, Talesh is one of the world’s most polluted cities. Due to the extremely high levels of air pollution in Talesh, the authorities designated seven consecutive days in 2019 as “accident days,” during which time residents were required to stay indoors. The main causes of the high pollution levels in this area are industrial waste, sewage disposal, and vehicle exhaust.

2. Delhi, India: Delhi is regarded as one of the most polluted cities in the world despite being one of the biggest. There are many factories and industries in Delhi, together with a huge population, which has contributed to extremely high levels of air pollution in the city. Additionally, the city is bordered by agricultural area, which generates a lot of burning trash. Most of the time, smog covers the city, and pollutants including benzene, lead, carbon monoxide, and sulphur dioxide are abundant in the air.

3. Beijing, China: Beijing is one of the most populated and dirty cities in the world. Air pollution is unavoidable in a metropolis with a 21 million-person population and the rapid expansion that has occurred there over the past two decades. Although government initiatives to combat air pollution in Beijing have been in place for a while, the haze density has remained very high.

4. Belem, Brazil: Located on the Amazon River’s banks, Belem is one of the world’s most polluted cities. Due to the numerous nearby companies and industries that spew pollutants into the air, the city has extremely high levels of air pollution. Additionally, the air is contaminated by the numerous automobiles that use the roadways.

5. Kabul, Afghanistan: Kabul is one of the most polluted cities in the world despite being one of the world’s poorest cities. Burning trash and wood, vehicle emissions, construction work, and industrial waste are some of the factors contributing to the air pollution in Kabul. In Kabul, there are significant concentrations of pollutants such carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

These cities are among the most polluted in the world, to sum up. Environmental pollution is a severe problem that needs to be addressed. To remedy the issue, governments must implement measures that will lessen air pollution and increase public awareness.
